The Air Force has decided to start simultaneous development of a new tanker and a new intelligence aircraft. The tanker will be able to accept pallets of communications gear that would allow it to control unmanned aircraft, gather intelligence, or relay communications. The intelligence aircraft would also be able to control unmanned combat aircraft, and could serve as a command and control aircraft. --Stephen V Cole
