In Pakistan's Northwest Frontier Province, the provincial legislature is passing a law that would establish a Taliban-like "virtue police" that could force people to behave in an "Islamic" way. This is similar to the "moral police" used in Saudi Arabia and, for a few years, in Afghanistan under the Taliban. Islamic conservatives hold most of the seats in the Northwest Frontier Province parliament, mainly because the Pushtun tribes here have the same puritanical attitudes of the Pushtun tribes across the border in Afghanistan. It was these Afghan tribes that tried to impose their customs on the rest of Afghanistan. The federal government can overrule laws passed by the provincial parliament.
