Some 800 people marched in protest to US operations in Afghanistan. The government pointed out that the bin Laden organization has not had much impact on Indonesia. This in response to comments in the US media that Southeast Asia is the next target for bin Laden operatives. There may have been some money and guns from bin Laden for anti Christian radicals operating in the Malukus. Likewise, the bin Laden people have made little progress with radicals in the Philippines (appealing only to the quasi-criminal Abu Sayyaf group) and Malaysia (where only fringe elements have shown interest in the bin Laden approach.) In Irian Jaya, police captured a village that had been used by separatists as a training camp. The rebels drove the villagers out on September 23rd, so the village could be used for training more rebels.
