Myanmar has demanded that Thailand pull back 35 manned outposts along their border. There is a dispute over who owns a strip of land (Doi Lang) in a remote area along the border. For a long time, no one bothered about the different maps each side used (a leftover from when Burma was a British colony.) But with drug armies and Myanmar rebels operating in the region, now its an issue. Earlier in the month, troops from a pro-government tribal army crossed over into Thailand, fired on a Thai base, killing two and wounding a dozen (including one Thai soldier). Both sides are threatening war over the border dispute.
